What a farm website really costs over three years
The sticker price isn’t the cost. Your time is, and so is the site that never gets updated after launch.
| Option | 3-year cost | Who updates it? |
|---|---|---|
| DIY on Squarespace/Wix | $900–1,800 + ~80 hrs of your time | You, in February |
| Freelancer one-off build | $1,500–6,000 + hosting + hourly changes | Whoever answers email |
| General web agency | $5,000–20,000 + retainer | Account manager, by ticket |
| FarmerSites Harvest | $5,839 all-in, changes included | We do — email us |
Pricing questions
What does the monthly fee cover?
Hosting on fast servers, SSL, daily backups, security updates, uptime monitoring, and your monthly content changes (30 minutes on Roadside, 1 hour on Harvest, 2 hours on Homestead). It is not a licence fee — you own the site, and if you leave we hand everything over.
Is there a contract?
The setup fee is one-time. The monthly plan is month-to-month after the first six months. Cancel by email.
Are there other costs?
Your domain name (about $15/year) and, if you sell online, the ordering platform’s own fees — Square, Barn2Door, Local Line and others charge their own subscription or per-transaction fees. We tell you exactly what those will be before you commit, and we’ll recommend the cheapest one that fits how you sell.
What if I need more changes than the plan includes?
Extra work is $95/hour in 15-minute increments, quoted first. In practice most farms never use their full included time outside of season changeover.
Can I upgrade later?
Yes. Pay the difference in setup fee and move to the higher monthly rate. Many farms start on Roadside and move to Harvest when they’re ready to sell online.
Do you offer discounts for multiple farms or market associations?
Yes — three or more sites in one organisation get 15% off setup. Email us.
Pick a plan, or pick “not sure”.
The intake form takes about ten minutes. If you’re not sure which plan fits, say so and we’ll recommend one — in writing, no call required.
